2018 Trends

Hi all, 

   

Violet/Purple is the colour of the year!  It just so happens that purple is my favourite colour :)

My teenage room was decorated in purple as is my current bedroom (many years later). Only now, I’ve added some green.

They do say creative and spiritual people love the colour purple.  I think they’re right.

Sea Stone

Sea Sediment: Also called Sea Jasper, Ocean Jasper, Emperor Jasper

The latest additions to my etsy store.

Sediment is a naturally occurring material that is broken down by weathering and erosion, and is transported by wind, water, ice, and then gravity which act on the particles.

A deep trough in the sea just off land is ideal for the formation as rivers and streams collect the sediment from the land and in time transfers this to the sea or ocean. Nature also helps as tides gather pebbles, rock and even volcanic ash and transfers this with the land sediment into these troughs. In time the pressure from above compresses the sediment and liquids are squeezed out leaving just the minerals themselves which form the rock.

There are many natural sea troughs in the world which form sea sediment but those off the USA, South America and India are ideal as the chart shows.

The rock formed is not a hard rock and easily worked for jewellery.

Some sea sediment is dyed and It is difficult to determine which, the only 100% way is to drill through the stone and see if the colour goes all the way through. If all the stone is a shade of one colour all over it could be dyed. Another option, which does no damage to the stone, is to see if the pattern and colours follow from front side and back. © Copyright ApsoWest 2013

Tree of Life Pentagram

The Pentagram is a symbol of a star encased in a circle. Always with 5 points (one pointing upward), each has its own meaning. The upward point of the star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water. All these things contribute to life and are a part of each of us.

To wear a pentagram necklace or other form of jewellery, is to say you feel the connection with the elements and respect the earth.

The pentagram has long been believed to be a potent protection against evil, a symbol of conflict that shields the wearer and the home. The pentagram has five spiked wards and a womb shaped defensive, protective pentagon at the centre.

The Tree of Life in its various forms is recognized in all cultures as a symbol of immortality and eternal life. From ancient Chinese and Egyptian culture to Germanic paganism and Mesoamerica, it has been sought after throughout the ages. And, while depicted in many different contexts, the imagery across all cultures is essentially the same. Not to be confused with the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, the tree of Life is the tree whose fruit gives eternal life to all who might obtain it. In addition to its religious references, it is a reminder of our past (roots - ancestry), present (tree body - knots included) and future (fruit – labour and posterity).

In Norse mythology, Yggdrasil is the World Tree, a great ash tree located at the centre of the universe and joining the Nine Worlds of Norse cosmology. The trunk of the tree may be thought of as forming a vertical axis around which these worlds are situated, with Ásgard, realm of the gods, at the top and the Hel, located in Niflheim, at the bottom. Midgard, or Middle-Earth (the world of mortals), is located in the middle and surrounded by Jötunheim, land of giants, both of which are separated by the ocean. Yggdrasil is also sometimes known as Mimameid or Laerad.
